IEC (Importer Exporter Code)

Importer Exporter Code (IEC) is mandatory for export/import from/to India as detailed in Foreign Trade Policy 2015-20. DGFT has recently introduced the facility of issuing Importer Exporter Code in electronic form (e-IEC). For issuance of e-IEC an application can be made online.

An IEC is a 10-digit number allotted to a person organization

No Export/Import without IEC:  No export or import shall be made by any person without obtaining an IEC number unless specifically exempted.

Only one IEC is permitted against a Permanent Account Number (PAN). If any PAN card holder has more than one IEC, the extra IECs shall be disabled.

Validity of IEC: An IEC allotted to an applicant shall have permanent validity unless cancelled by the competent authority. The IEC will cover all branches / divisions / units / factories of the applicant.  Goods already imported / arrived can be cleared against an IIEC subsequently issued.
